Choosing a company to handle your SEO is comparable to finding a contractor for your home, except that home warranties often come with some recourse. There are thousands of self-proclaimed SEO experts, link building companies, content writing services, web design companies and… well, you name it … all promising they can deliver #1 rankings but this is simply not true.
Search engine optimization can make or break your website. Hiring the wrong firm could even cost you millions in lost traffic from having your website banned from Google and months (or years) trying to fix the damage. Using the home contractor example above, what would happen if your roof collapsed or your flooring cracked? Most people would just call the contractor or their home insurance company to get it fixed, knowing full well any cost is covered. In the SEO world the only guarantee is that somebody will pass the blame on to someone else and you will be left all alone trying to fix the damage and pay the repair bill.
Search engine optimization is not new but its still relatively young and so many opportunities exist for the scammers and hustlers of the world to make money off people who don’t know better. We live in a world where it’s easy to believe what we see and man, do these SEO “experts” know how to showcase their “talents”. Quotes from happy costumers (who probably don’t exist), links to sites that look great but rank # 1 for a term which gets NO traffic and more. The devil is in the details and hiring any SEO expert or search engine optimization agency for your website means spending time carefully checking their resume and researching their work.
The catch 22 is most real SEO experts will never explain all the tricks and rarely even offer services online, so the number of actual SEO experts around and available for hire are much less than you may think. After all, why build a website for someone else when you can just build your own?
We can help provide search engine optimization tips every now and then but we won’t even recommend anyone either. What we do advise however is that you spend as much time learning about SEO, link building, title tags, page content and more before ever approaching any firm.
